Qty is the total quantity per piece, black and white. Each chess set ships with the regulation 32 pieces. Width is the diameter of the widest part of the base, measured in inches, and is accurate to ±5%. Note that all plastic MegaChess pieces are composed of three screw-together parts, with the base part the same for all pieces. Height is the distance from the base to the highest part of the piece, measured in inches, and is accurate to ±5%. Weight is the weight of each single piece, accurate to ±5%. Note that by adding sand to the hollow base, you can add up to another 9 pounds to each piece.

We took our most popular seller, the plastic chess set with the 25" king, and designed an insert for all such chess sets to make them a foot taller. This insert has the patent-pending Quick Connect Couplings®, making for quick and tight assembly.

The high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic is recycled mostly from the plastic milk cartons you bring to the recycling centers. It is a soft plastic suitable for energetic young chess players who like to throw the pieces around as part of a satisfying chess game. This MegaChess set is rugged enough to throw out of airplanes.

When planning a playing area, consider a chess board with squares about 12 in across, making for a chess board 8 ft on a side. The plastic chessboard that we sell is an excellent match. Weighting the pieces for a more solid feel is as simple as unscrewing the base, and filling the base with pea gravel. The base can hold up to 9 lbs of gravel.

To transport the entire chess set, plan on about 30 cubic feet and 90 pounds (if you haven't added sand to weight the bases).
