 DoD Recreation Managers
Chess was born a millennium ago as a game of military strategy.
Compared to video games, it sharpens a soldier's concentration and his or her
ability to think.
Nothing will invite a soldier to master chess as much as a giant
MegaChess set visible across the rec center, particularly ringed by
soldiers watching a game.
You've got exercise
equipment for the athletic soldiers. Team sports to build cooperation.
- What about the moral and welfare of quiet, thinking soldiers?
Want to draw them out of their barracks? Would a MegaChess set allow
them to showcase their contributions to their band of brothers?

- Cost
- Compared to the development of almost any property improvement,
MegaChess requires nothing but an 8-foot square area for the
checkerboard (tiles or paint). This is often a multi-use area in a garden,
patio, cafe overflow, etc. No electricity, no plumbing, no constant
supervision. Rain, cold, dark, or tired bodies a MegaChess game
can still happen. Be sure to ask our expert about
your location options.
- Event Theme Match
- Scan through the insignia of the various military units on base
and you'll see the chess overlap. The valor of the knight. The victory of the
king. The invincibility of the rook (castle). The power of the female soldier
(queen). Consider how a chess theme and your MegaChess set can support
retirements, motivational events, military conferences, and any other base
events that can leverage this traditional military theme.

Which Chess Set?
Start with the rugged plastic set in
a MegaBag for easy storage. If you don't have a
built-in chessboard, add a RolaBoard. Don't forget the
patriotic Revolutionary Poster.
For the officer's club, important event, the conference, or
the visiting dignitaries, bring out the fine teak
MegaChess sets. |
- Community Outreach
- Unlike most large rec center assets, a MegaChess set is
portable. Allow soldiers to check it out and play in a nearby city park or
beach. Picture a group of soldiers playing in uniform, inviting families and
kids. Is that a photo op for community goodwill? Or recruitment?
- Liability
- We live in a world with insurance rates skyrocketing around
pools, athletic fields, barbecues, and even exercise equipment. Few
quality-of-life improvements can compete with MegaChess on that score.
No one we know of has ever died playing chess.
- Families & Civil Servants
- Want military spouses and kids to come to your rec center,
particularly during deployments? A MegaChess set will do that more than
the weight room. Want a non-threatening entry point to your rec center for
flabby civil servants? A MegaChess game will appeal to even the most
sedentary desk jockey.
