Qty is the total quantity per piece, black and white.
Each chess set ships with the regulation 32 pieces. Width is
the diameter of the base, measured in inches, and is accurate to
±10%. Height is the distance from the base to the
highest part of the piece, measured in inches, and is accurate to
±10%. Weight is the weight of each single piece, accurate to
±15%. The total weight is for all 32 chess pieces. For
shipment, add to that the containers and packing material (about another 20%),
plus any accessories you order. |

Yes, we have matching teak
chess boards and teak Mega Checkers! |
|
This is the largest and most elegant of our teak chess sets that
is still light enough to be played without dollies.

When planning a playing area, consider the minimum size of the
square of a chessboard as the diameter of the base of the king (17 inches).
That minimum would be a chessboard 11 feet and 4 inches on each side. Optimum
would be 24-inch squares, which is also a standard for tile sizes, yielding a
chessboard 16 feet on each side.

Pricing Note
As of this writing, teak lumber sells for $8/lb at most
hardwood retailers in the US. That will go up over time. A large teak
MegaChess set sells for a fraction of this raw material cost.
Considered as an investment, the value of a teak
MegaChess set doesn't depreciate it goes up in value as teak
grows more scarce. After over a thousand years, a chess set is not going to go
out of style. A MegaChess set has no moving parts, hence nothing to wear
out. It will be a family treasure to pass down through many generations.
A MegaChess set is like buying gold that you can
enjoy! |
When planning to lift the pieces,
particularly for children and the elderly, look to the weight of the queen (55
pounds). Although the king is heavier, his one-square move is done with a
simple roll along the edge of the base (picture at right). The queen has a
standard collar 23 inches from the floor that is convenient for lifting.
Lifting a bucket with its handle is a similar move, so test lift and walk with
a bucket containing 55 pounds. If that is too
heavy, consider using a small furniture dolly (under $50 at most large hardware
stores).
To transport the entire MT48 chess set, plan on about 70 cubic
feet, which fills up the back half of a van.
