Qty is the total quantity per piece, black and white. Each chess set ships with the regulation 32 pieces. Width is the diameter of the base, and Height is the distance from the base to the highest part of the piece, each measured in inches. Weight is the weight of each single piece. Everything is accurate to ±15%. The total weight is for all 32 chess pieces, not including shipping materials.

Because the design of the pieces is common to our plaster sets, you can even mix and match with those. Tip: Keep the beauty of teak's grain for one side and get the faux rock (granite, marble, etc.) for the other.

Rubber Tree Wood?

As described in our environmental statement about Teak and Rain Forests, we now have the dark side of this MegaChess set made by the same village artisans, but out of surplus rubber tree wood instead of teak.

Pricing Note

As of this writing, teak lumber sells for $8/lb at most hardwood retailers in the US. That will go up over time. A large teak MegaChess set sells for a fraction of this raw material cost.

Considered as an investment, the value of a teak MegaChess set doesn't depreciate — it goes up in value as teak grows more scarce. After over a thousand years, a chess set is not going to go out of style. A MegaChess set has no moving parts, hence nothing to wear out. It will be a family treasure to pass down through many generations.

When planning a playing area, consider the minimum size of the square of a chessboard as the diameter of the base of the king (11 inches). The common standard for tile that size is a 12" square, yielding a chessboard 8 feet on each side.

To transport the entire MT24 chess set, plan on about 14 cubic feet, which fills up two child's wagons as in the above picture.
