You can get the kids a pretty blanket, or a pretty MegaChess blanket that is also good for a MegaChess game.

A soft summer or winter cotton fleece blanket ideal for two twin beds or sewn together for a double bed. The blankets form an 8-foot square. Dry clean or cold machine wash.

The 12-inch squares are ideal for a chess set with a 2-foot tall king, such as the plastic MegaChess set.

This MegaChess blanket comes in two pieces, each 4-ft by 8-ft. This makes each piece ideal for a child's bed, either as two blankets for one child or as one blanket for two beds. For chess play, lay them next to each other for an 8-ft by 8-ft chessboard. For a queen-sized or king-sized bed, simply sew them together along their edge.
