In 2005, MegaChess began donating chess sets to American units deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We teamed with Operation Interdependence to get the chess sets overseas taking a different route. The chess sets first go to a major US city and are displayed next to a trade show, music concert, or festival. While on display, the public is invited to write messages on the chess sets with markers -- much like signing an arm cast.

The MegaChess signings were more popular than we expected. And the messages we read were so touching that we decided to design a poster to accompany the chess sets.

For the modern soldiers, we used a few Marines from our nearby Camp Pendleton, a place that has sent many brave Marines in harm's way to defend our country.
